I have another appointment this weekend for someone else to look at it. He sells any part for any automatic Transmision and his prices are very affordable. Actually drops mileage on overhead read out when coasting down a grade. Did the Dodge demon come along and decide to throw my truck into a state of mechanical dementia? We checked it out for about an hour under the hood and under the truck , it checked out fine, so I decided to buy it. I replaced this transmission within the last 15,000 miles, and it is acting up again! The rope snagged on the bumber of truck so I pulled up, stopped, got out of truck and walked to back of truck.
So I am stuck now. One way to tell if it is slipping is to pull the trans dipstick when its warm and you have driven a few miles and see if there are a lot of air bubbles on it. He said this is a very common problem. I would change the fluid and filter in the transmission. The truck had the 53 block V6 diesel, which cracked and had to be replaced. It is fairly common for these. After I was inside for approximately 30-45 seconds, the trucks gear shift slipped out of park and into reverse, causing the truck to run backwards, finally striking a gas pump and knocking it over.
A couple of months go by and no problems what so ever. I get real nervous and pull over because I put the petal to the floor and nothing happened. The quickest way to test a solenoid is using a hand held ohm meter. I tried to talk to the dealership about lemon lawing it but they won't talk to me. It might also not be seated correctly. As of now Mid March 2010 , the lights are still on, the speedometer problem is still there, but the tranny was shifting fine. Waiting any day now for total tramsmission failure.
I took it to Serramonte Dealer in Daly City Ca. Am still have problem with but have no warranty. Same problem but not covered????. Sorry its not better news but I am a mechanic and I work on 6-8 dodge trucks a month and 1 or 2 will be showing sighns that the transmission is slipping. I then was going to back down to water until boat floated off trailer and then pull ahead, stop and get rope and tie boat to dock. The mechanic in charge told me You don't know anything about transmissions, this one is good, I could file a law suit for discrimination the way they treat me the did not take my complaint, went back again to Dodge Dealer in Richmond Ca they told me the same thing, got angry and told them if they don't fix it I will file a law suit against them, then they took it again to test drive , finally they told me the transmission was bad , they replaced weeks later.
I am older and needed a reliable truck! I handed them a copy of technical service bulletin that called for the change, but they charge for diagnosis. Claimed it was not covered under warranty or 0 deductible extended warranty. Transmission started slipping out of gear, switching gears and otherwise being a pain again, just within the last week. Changed the cam and crank sensors and it ran normally for a test drive and thought I had it fixed. After restarting vehicle consumer noticed transmission light went off. The chance is high one will end up in your shop for repairs sooner or later.
Now, a transmission with less than 15000 miles is failing! It feels like the transmission slips in and out of gear. Have since researced this problem and found it endemic to 97 Dodge rams. Ideally you want the transmission to get no higher than 200 degrees. I don't know what needs to be done about the transmission, and transmission shops aren't known for their honesty. If you get a low reading you most likely have a short in it.
I had my bumper replaced as it was damaged. It needs to be addressed, people are spending so much money on looking for fixes. Check all the wire harness, V. This was a special order vehicle I had to wait three months for this. While driving 60 mph, the gears slipped without warning.
After driving a little ways transmission made a very loud noise. An accident occurred due to this failure. There are hundreds of cases about bad transmissions on these vehicles. If there are, its slipping. I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty, 3.
