While driving though especially freeway mph and I am having to slow down it jerks and than when I am putting car into drive, almost as if it is skipping first and auto goes to second, the rpm go a little wild. Unlatch it, remove the bulb and install the new bulb. The code p1778 eventually is cleared from the computer on its own when it does occur. After returning home the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop who diagnosed the symptoms and not the root cause of the problem. Once the gear changed occurred and the speed was constant it seem to catch and go into drive as normal but this time the check engine light came on.
We took it to the mechanic who at first thought it was the transmission fluid being low, so we filled it up. The right side will require the removal of the windshield washer tank. Rear sort of made worse with the jerking. While driving at freeway speeds it will slip gears. The vehicle will not accelerate or maintain speed with other vehicles at the posted 75 mph speed limit. At other times the vehicle is able to accelerate dramatically normal to the speed of cars on a busy main street 55mph. I have a young son and this vehicle is defiantly not safe for him to drive in.
The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the transmission solenoid needed to be replaced. Are they waiting for a mortality to occur? It is best to have a transmission shop do the install but it cures a lot of the problems that transmission has. My car had begun to idle very low twice and actually died once. In between 15-20 miles 1 gear there was a delay and a click during shifting. It is absolutely incredible on how many people share the same problems that I have and that Nissan has not done nothing about it. Okay, you have the common Nissan trans problems.
Becoming dangerous as slipping at higher rps has become more prevalent of late, especially lower speed, light incline and increasing speeds. I called dealership and after long conversation with the manager I was told that they will work with me not sure yet how ,but because of my numerous complains he wont fix the valves anymore he want to replace the whole transmission. The failure mileage was 97,000. On that day, I was pushing on gas, rvm revving high, but car not picking up speed, car started to jerk, and almost had accident. When car is driven for a few minutes, then turned off and then turned on again then the noise is gone and car accelerates just fine.
The service engine soon light remained on. The failure recurred several times. The struts have also gone bad. When I was driving home I experience the same sensation off jerking while accelerating from gare 1 to 2 and 2-1. It is a known issue with solenoids; do your research, there is plenty online in regards to this issue. The fix is to put in the re-engineered updated solenoid so doesn't break apart and cause debris throughout transmission like the one original solenoid assembly placed in car.
Talked to the place where the vehicle was bought and because the warranty was expired they were unwilling to help. Its just a matter of time before I get hit, I always have to wait to make sure no car is coming in my direction. In fact it has grown worse. The vehicles goes into limp mode. Well when I had bought the car the man had it checked thoroughly with paper work.
With time the problem the shifting kept getting harder and harder. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph the accelerator pedal was pressed but the vehicle deaccelerated. The jerk forward was very noticeable and very scary. The vehicle was taken to a transmission shop for inspection where they stated that the solenoids in the valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Lack of power is present in heavy traffic as well.
I also, experienced lag time, and high rpm? It also slips gears after pulling out at a stop sign. The next day the check engine light came back on. They said it was the motor mounts, but they were new then it was this sensor and that sensor, the dog, the cat anything but the transmission. With the subharness repaired it did not fix the problem. I took it back and I am told I need to change the at solenoid assembly and or replace the transmission. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the solenoid needed to be replaced. The problem has been getting progressively worst and did not occur when the car was purchased new.
This is apparently a know problem with the 04 Maximas and something needs to be done about it!!. In city driving the cvt will not respond when the gas pedal is depressed leaving the vehicle in the center of traffic when entering a busy highway. When taken to the dealer they said it was the shift solenoid that's related to the transmission. Please let me know what can be done about this issue or where I can go to get help. The vehicle was not repaired.
There are thousands of complaints from 2004-06 Maxima owners who are having similar problems with their transmissions. To drive around 63,000 miles. This cvt transmission sucks and the dealerships are giving customers a hard time since the problem doesn't not give a engine trouble code. Carmax or the warrenty company will not honor the policy, stating that the milage came first. We took it to the transmission guy who said it could be the solenoid? P 0797 pressure control solenoid, stuck on.
