Starter appears to be okay. This was not a Dodge, Chrysler, or Jeep dealership either. It does feel a little heavier and you do have to be more careful when driving in area's with bad roads and pot holes. There is definitely something wrong with the wiring of this car. Make sure the terminal pushes on tightly.
I immediately had the battery replaced and thought the issues was solved. I contacted the in town Chrysler dealer right after the problem began. Lights, radio, etc all come on. Battery, starter, and alternator has all been changed and still had a shutoff. Don't know what's involved in replacing the range sensor,but it's likely easier than the starter. After applying the emergency brake, the vehicle was able to be stopped.
Any new sugestion will be great. I don¿T care if I have to pay to get it fixed. Coolers are inexpensive and easy to install. The dealership has replaced battery, alternator, neutral safety switch, and starter. Does your transmission need rebuilt? Research online shows that many other consumers have or are experiencing the same problem. As the plunger moves and engages the starter teeth to the flywheel, it completes the load circuit and provides power to the starter motor. The repair involves unplugging an electrical connection and removing two or three bolts that mount the switch to the transmission or transaxle, whichever the case may be. If you google the 09 Dodge Journey starting problems there are many many complaints of people having the same issues. The vehicle shut off and the instrument panel blacked out; however, the windshield wipers did not stop. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Leaving the back brake pads with the longest life of around 5000 miles this is with aggressive or non-aggressive driving it doesn't matter. After church Sunday I plan on checking it out further before having it towed to the shop. The vehicle was repaired at least thirty times by various dealers since 2013.
Reading through the link Allan posted in his response, I tried something one of the posters in that thread had success with. I took it to button Dodge and they fixed something that has to do with my transmission. A police report was not filed. I would clean the starter terminals first. When and or what will it take to have action on this issue?!?.
Still having the same issue!. He pulled into his drive and turned the ignition off, lights started flashing and he could not restart the vehicle. We have replaced the battery, alternator, and starter but it continues to have issues starting over the past 3 months. After 10, 15 or 20 minutes the vehicle starts after the attempt. Vehicle would not start after it was running for 20 min. The day after we bought the vehicle it began not starting and leaving us stranded for minutes to hours at a time. The contact had to shift into neutral in order for the vehicle to start.
It seemed to be working fine. This is a major safety concern with small children especially, and even for adults who may bump the gear shifter. Be sure to position the battery cable end away from the battery terminal so there is no chance of arching. Note: This is an expansion of recall 11V-139.
