After the second rebuild and float ajustment, the leak stopped and the engine ran well. Visibly bent push rods should be tossed and others should be checked. Yes, the brass needles will work for a time , but a groove will wear in the needle, effecting the height of the float. Replacement parts, written guidance and experienced advice are all plentiful for the Cub from a multitude of online sources, since it is one of the most popular tractors to restore; however parts are relatively expensive compared to other tractors for the same reasons. You will see as you are torqueing that you could twist and damage the rod quite easily. I got the carburetor free from a man who used to own a chainsaw dealership. Crankshaft Seals I find this to be one of the most irrating mistakes to make when rebuilding. I will have the hand lift on it for demo purposes but thats about it.
I sold it to another forum member, Save your money, these guys are better and cheaper. I rebuilt the original fuel filter still leaks but is seprate problem. A rubber hose allows blowby from the engine crankcase to vent into the carburetor's intake airstream. While it is possible to get the shaft turned you need to check first if oversize bearings are available since normally only standard size are sold for old tractors. I was using it for cutting cordwood with the attached saw one weekend, and instead of putting it back in the barn, I left it hooked to the saw by the woodpile. That night lightning struck a tree, which fell on the Cub totally destroying everything on it…. After the first rebuild it leaked gas out of the intake. It was cheaply repaired and I found this when I was going through to rebuild them both. I find it very exciting.
