I tried the windows memory diagnostic test, which my machine passed, so I feel like yours isn't going to be a problem like that either. The hard drive comes on very, very briefly and shuts off I just noticed that this last time I turned it on. It doesn't even seem like the battery is charging. Even though I'm out of warranty, I think Gateway should be addressing what appears to be a manufacturing fault.

Hello, I got my gateway notebook nv52 a couple months ago. The switches purpose is only to connect the two board points to send the connection for power or shut down, hence your 2 wires touching together acts as the switch. Switch on the monitor and check if monitor works fine again.
Thanks I also had this problem. The case and power supply was filled with dust bunnies, lint, etc. You will also have to weed through a lot of dead ends. I am planning to have geekstogo! Tried to turn on this morning and there is no response. Disconnect all sources of power.
My sons' b-day is Sunday and bought it for him. I took the screen apart and pulled the inverter out to see what I needed to replace. After an hour or so of charging press the power button. I don't see how opening the lid as far as it will go solves anything, except to get the magnet as far away from the sensor as possible, removing it or reversing it from the fields influence. Are there any lights on when you boot up or beeps? So any solutions are very welcome and if anyone has any ideas on how much this would cost to fix I know it varies a little depending on where would be nice.
This means a physical problem with the screen and a repair center fix, I'm guessing. Just bought this off of ebay with no warranty. It can be dead and cold as well. I'm wondering if it's a problem with the lid closing mechanism, since the toggle that clasps the lid to the body has been hard to move for some time now. Go to Contol Panel- Power Management - select hidden options- then create your own custom power management profile, set the plugged settings to never shutdown and the battery setting to shut off whenever computer is not in use or when the lid is closed etc.
